Clinical Hypnosis
Dr. Simpao is certified in clinical hypnosis through NYSEPH (New York Milton Erickson Society for Psychotherapy and Hypnosis). She specializes in anxiety management, pain management, pre-surgical preparation, phobias, smoking cessation, and changing negative thoughts and behaviors for the better. Hypnosis is also useful for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), sleep regulation, and temporomandibular joints disorders (TMJ). Hypnosis is a state of deep consciousness in which you are in control but open to new suggestions. Many patients find it calming, refreshing, and motivating. Some patients utilize hypnosis treatment on a short-term basis while working with their primary therapist. Other patients integrate hypnosis as part of their long-term treatment.
Multicultural Patients and Patients of Color
As a first-generation Filipino-American raised in the U.S., Dr. Ellen Simpao is sensitive to the issues that immigrants (and their families) experience. These challenges include cultural identity, intergenerational and cultural differences, the impact of separation from families due to immigration, and the loss of a familiar environment. The struggles that people of color/multicultural individuals face as they assimilate and acculturate are can be exacerbated by racism, marginalized communities, and socio-economic disparities.
Various Populations
In addition to working with multiracial/cultural patients, Dr. Simpao also specializes in patients with depression, anxiety, trauma (including sexual abuse), relationship issues, grief, and pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum issues. Dr. Simpao is trained as a child and adolescent therapist, has worked in a college setting with design and business students, and treated patients from their early 20’s into later adulthood. Hence, she is comfortable working with a wide range of ages, LGBTQ+ issues, and various forms of relationships (aromantic, monogamous, polyamorous, etc.).
